Just when Meta is in a pile of problems over its spy glasses, the fruity cargo cult Apple has decided it’s time to copy them.
In a truly daft idea, Jobs’ Mob has decided that it would be a wizard wheeze to stick cameras on its earbuds, turning all its fanboys into potential stalkers.
MacRumors dug into one of the macOS 27 release candidates and unearthed a short video showing a man wearing AirPods Pro who somehow uses them with the optimistically titled Apple Intelligence to save an image of a book for later.
The guy isn’t wearing glasses, so it’s not the rumoured Apple iGlass or Apple Vision Wear at work here. Instead, everyone believes this is the first confirmation that Apple is working on AirPods with cameras or “AirPods Vision,” a pair of Bluetooth earbuds also equipped with vision sensors that, in concert with your connected iPhone, can use Apple Intelligence to recognise objects and then store information about them for retrieval later.
While it is not clear how this idea works, it is clearly a privacy issue waiting to happen, with women being chased by Apple fanboys who want to copy their image using their ears. There is a sentence I didn’t think I would ever write.
It is also an invitation for a bloke to punch every Apple fanboy wearing any flavour of earbuds in the face for stalking their partner. This is because the pictures show the video earbuds look the same as the current AirPods Pro 3.
Apple fanboys say that these things are not meant to take pictures, but they equally claimed that the Apple Tabs were not meant to be slipped into women’s handbags to track them to where they live.
In other words, the software and hardware are there, and someone will adapt it. Just like they have done with the Meta specs. Like the Meta specs, there will be a cat-and-mouse game played between those who want to film and harass people they fancy and the tech bros who believed it was a good idea to release a product that can do it.
