Asus apparently decided there is still a market for Chromebooks, introducing a whole new model at the CES 2026 show in Las Vegas, the Asus Chromebook CM32 detachable Chromebook. Based on MediaTek’s Kompanio 540 processor, the latest Chromebook from Asus packs quite a punch and is far from earlier entry-level Chromebook systems.
In addition to the MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, which is an octa-core SoC with two Arm Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0GHz, paired up with Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, the Asus Chromebook CM32 has 4GB or 8GB of LDDR5X memory, up to 128GB of eMMC storage, and a 12.1-inch 2.5K (2560×1600) resolution 600 nits 120Hz touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 3. It has a front and rear 5MP cameras, an optional stylus, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C port, WiFi 7 support, and more.
Of course, it runs on Chrome OS, with optional Chrome Enterprise or Education Upgrade, and comes with a 42Wh battery, promising up to 13 hours of battery life.
Unfortunately, Asus did not report the price or the availability date.
