Kioxia rolls out EG7 QLC SSDs as it brings Gen 8 flash to client PCs

Kioxia has announced its new KIOXIA EG7 Series SSDs, marking the company’s first client drives built on its BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC (4-bit-per-cell) technology. The new lineup is aimed squarely at value-focused laptops and desktops, with Kioxia claiming performance on par with TLC-based drives while improving total cost of ownership.

According to Kioxia, the EG7 Series is designed to bring the benefits of its latest 3D QLC flash to mainstream PC workloads. The drives deliver up to 1,000K IOPS in random read and write performance, along with sequential speeds reaching 7,000 MB/s for reads and 6,200 MB/s for writes. It will be available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

The company is also baking in NVMe 2.0d support, giving PC makers more flexibility in system design and device management. The SSDs will be available in multiple M.2 form factors, including 2230, 2242, and 228, making them suitable for a wide range of devices, from slim notebooks to desktops.

Positioned as part of Kioxia’s value-oriented client portfolio, the DRAM-less EG7 Series uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to tap system memory in order to balance cost, power efficiency, and responsiveness.

Kioxia says the EG7 Series is currently sampling with select PC OEMs, with systems featuring the new drives expected to start shipping in the second quarter of 2026.
