Nvidia unveils next-gen DLSS 5, promising game-changing graphics

Nvidia has revealed its next major evolution of DLSS technology, dubbed DLSS 5, at its GTC 2026 event, promising a dramatic leap in visual quality driven by neural rendering.

According to the initial showcase and information provided by Nvidia, DLSS 5 is designed to run in real time at up to 4K resolution while maintaining smooth interactive frame rates. Developers will also be able to tune intensity, color, and masking to preserve a game’s artistic intent, all within NVIDIA’s Streamline framework that supports DLSS and Reflex technologies. Unlike earlier DLSS versions, DLSS 5 uses a neural model that enhances scenes with photoreal lighting and materials directly tied to the original 3D content. Early demos showed improved handling of reflections, subsurface scattering, and surface detail.

Several major titles, including Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, were announced as some of the first games expected to take advantage of DLSS 5. The announcement follows DLSS 4.5, which brought a second-generation transformer model for Super Resolution and features like Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, enabling up to 6x frame generation on RTX 50‑series GPUs.

Nvidia demonstrated DLSS 5 running on high-end hardware, but it was keen to note that it will be usable on a single RTX 50-series GPU when it launches. Exact performance requirements, game support, and release timing are still to be announced. Nvidia did note it expects it in the fall of 2026.
