Microsoft used the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 to unveil a special anniversary edition of the Xbox Series X, celebrating 25 years of the Xbox brand with a design that throws it back to the original console era.
The new Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition comes with a translucent green finish inspired by the classic 2001 Xbox design. The console keeps the same internal hardware as the current Xbox Series X, but adds several cosmetic changes aimed squarely at longtime Xbox fans, including anniversary markings and retro styling details.
Microsoft also introduced a matching X25 Special Edition wireless controller. It follows the same transparent green theme while bringing back the original colored ABXY buttons and a few visual nods to the first-generation Xbox controller. The design leans heavily into nostalgia without changing the core functionality of the controller itself.
Unlike a mid-generation refresh, the X25 lineup focuses entirely on collector appeal rather than upgraded specs. The hardware remains identical to the standard Xbox Series X, meaning players still get the same performance and feature set already available on current consoles.
The company says the anniversary hardware will launch later this year in limited quantities, with pricing and preorder information expected to arrive closer to release.
