The Fruity Cargo Cult Apple has delayed its smart home display again because Siri is still not fit to run the show.
Job’s Mob had lined it up for last week’s product-launch slog, but Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says the timetable has been pushed back because the super cool, cure-for-cancer, revamped Siri is surprisingly not up to snuff.
According to the Tame Apple Press, the Smart Home Display was meant to leverage new AI tricks, proving that Jobs Mob had not dropped the ball on AI and, in fact, had invented it long before anyone else.
Job’s Mob still wants a rebuilt Siri this year, with long-promised in-app actions, personal context awareness and on-screen awareness, so it can poke around apps using your data and what you are looking at.
That supposedly rides on a 1.2-trillion-parameter custom Gemini AI model, branded Foundation Models version 10.
The chatbot Siri expected next year with iOS 27 is a different beast, running on Google’s TPUs and cloud infrastructure, even if Jobs’ Mob insists it is “owned” in spirit.
The rebuilt Siri is meant to sit in the Private Cloud Compute setup, where simpler jobs run on-device, and the hairier bits are offloaded to private servers via encrypted, stateless data.
It was meant to land during the iOS 26.4 update cadence, but Gurman says it has been pushed back due to performance inconsistencies that will not behave.
Bloomberg, reporter Mark Gurman wrote: “The product, code-named J490, was first scheduled for spring 2025 but was postponed to let the company finish work on a new Siri digital assistant, an integral piece of the device’s interface.
Apple had then planned to release the display this month, when it hoped the new Siri would be ready, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private. With Siri delayed again, Apple is now postponing the smart home device once more.”
The device itself sounds like an iPad that has had a growth spurt and a lifestyle coach, with a seven-inch screen, a single USB-C port and an aluminium casing.
It can sit on a dome-shaped speaker base or mount to a wall, which is great if you have always wanted a tablet permanently judging your kitchen.
Its party trick is facial recognition, spotting who has wandered up and serving personalised content based on whoever it thinks you are today.
The UI is tipped to use a tvOS 27 variant with circular app icons like the Apple Watch home screen, because nothing says “home hub” like tiny bubbles.
Gurman expects the rebuilt Siri by September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro range and iPhone Fold, so the display is stuck waiting for Siri to grow up.
