New software technique gives IoT devices an extra 20dB signal range

This week on stage at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain, chip giant Intel will focus its efforts on announcing new developments in the realm of fifth-generation (5G) LTE networks. The focus comes just days after the company showed the results of a low-power wide area (LPWA) field test for IoT devices in collaboration with Orange S.A (formerly France Télécom S.A) and Ericsson.

AT&T, the second largest wireless carrier in the United States (as of Q4 2015) and the nation’s second largest advertiser (as of Q1 2016), has just announced that it will begin trials of fifth-generation 5G LTE service later this summer, with the possibility of limited commercial deployments in the first months of 2017.
