Lacks hardware decoder

Intel will launch a more cost efficient verison of the G45 chipset, christened the G43, sometime in Q2 next year. This chipset will be similar to the G45 in most respects, but it will lack the hardware HD video decoding abilities of the G45.

It will still feature the Vista Premium logo and it will offer the same range of display connectivity options, including HDMI and DisplayPort.

Although it won't decode HD video in hardware, MPEG-2 hardware decoding is still present, so as long as you're happy with standard defenition video decoding, then the G43 will offer a more affordable integrated solution than the G45. It should still be able to upscale SD definition video to 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
