With Xbox Live being a big part of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 platform that will start showing up in a number of cell phone models over the next couple of months, it was pretty much assumed that Microsoft would follow their past trend and use their Microsoft Points model for users to purchase content for these Windows Phone 7 devices. We have now learned that Microsoft has elected to abandon the Microsoft Points system for the Windows Phone 7 platform.
With Microsoft moving away from using Microsoft Points on the Windows Phone 7 platform, the company will instead use good old cash instead. While that is not exactly accurate, the truth is that you will be able to pay by credit card/debit card or have the purchase charged to your cell phone bill with your provider.
The new Windows Phone 7 platform will feature Xbox Live integration into the platform which is already attracting a lot of attention. The news that Microsoft will drop their points payment system is certain to be a big hit with many who have complained that the Microsoft Point system is much more of a pain than it is worth. Despite many suggesting that Microsoft should drop the point payment system altogether, as of right now it does not appear that the company has immediate plans to do so.
