Yes, people it is that time again. George Lucas will once again offer you a chance to relive the magic of Star Wars in two new ways. The first, not surprisingly, will be the release of all six Star Wars films re-mastered for release on Blu-ray. It is expected that this while be initially a Blu-ray box set-only release, according to sources, with the single films to be available on Blu-ray at some point in the future.

The next plan is a bit more daring, as Lucas plans to re-master and convert Episode I: The Phantom Menace for release in 3D in early 2012, followed by the other titles in the series yearly after the first one, if successful. The plan would include a theatrical release for each film followed by the 3D version becoming available on 3D Blu-ray.

This means that fans can look forward to at least two more additional Star Wars film purchases to go along with the VHS, Laser Disc and DVD versions of the film that they already own. It just seems that the Star Wars franchise continues to find new ways to get people excited with the standardization of each new format. The 3D Star Wars experience and adaptation could prove interesting, however, as early movies were shot on standard firm while the newer releases were shot all digital; this means the wizards at Lucas could provide what might at least be a very interesting 3D experience.
