Mobile PC shipments to slow down in 2011

Tablets to fuel rebound later in the year
Growth of mobile PC shipments is set to slow down in 2011, but analysts are expecting it to rebound in the long term.

According to DisplaySearch, growth will drop from 30 percent in 2010 to about 27 percent in 2011, with estimated worldwide shipments of 277.7 million units. Analysts are blaming the trend on weak demand in China and slower than expected netbook sales.

However, tablet sales are expected to have a positive effect on the market towards the end of the year. They will clearly continue to cannibalize the netbook market, which is projected to see a 20 percent slump in 2011. Many major players are looking to exit the netbook market and join the tablet bandwagon instead.
