BAPCo fires back at AMD

by on23 June 2011

Handbags at six paces
Industry consortium BAPCo is firing back at AMD over its allegations that SYSmark 2012 fails to properly represent performance.

AMD is not the only defector, as Nvidia and VIA have also decided not to endorse the new benchmark. AMD seems to be concerned about APU performance in the benchmark, while Nvidia and VIA have reasons of their own.

However, BAPCo claims that AMD was an integral part of the decision making process in the consortium and that it had voted in favour of 80 percent of SYSmark 2012 development milestones. BAPCo also dismissed AMD’s claims that it had been threatened with expulsion from the consortium if it went public with its concerns.

Although many industry heavyweights, including the likes of Dell, HP, Microsoft, Lenovo, Sony and Toshiba are still on board, it seems that SYSmark 2012 really won’t be as relevant in the CPU department. Apparently it will be a good tool to compare Intel processors... to other Intel processors.
