Intel plans aggressive transition to the next generation Atom and it has a good thing going on.

On the netbook side of things the top performer is Atom N2800, clocked at 1.86GHz with two cores and a total 1MB of cache. The CPU has a new graphics core inside with HDMI support, as well as improved media performance. It can play HD 1080p content or with the right WiFi it can even support WiDi (Wireless display).

However, the new Atom still lacks any modern I/O such as USB 3.0 or SATA 6Gb/s support as the new Atom is still stuck with the ancient NM10 southbridge. USB 3.0 should be possible via third party controllers but let me remind you AMD's E-350 or upcoming E-450 come with SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3.0 bringing quite an advantage in buying formula. The same goes for AMD’s C-series APUs.

In any case, if you want native USB from Intel you will have to wait at least until 2012, Atoms included.
