Celeb names blocked from .xxx domain

ICM registry bans thousands of names
Cybersquatters hoping to cash in on the new .xxx domain will have to look elsewhere for their victims.

ICM Registry banned more than 4,000 celebrity names, ranging from Hollywood stars such as Angelina Jolie to failed businessmen and politicians, like Donald Trump. A number of politicians are on the list as well, so Democrats won’t be able to poke fun on Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann, but we doubt this will stop Larry Flynt.

ICM exec Stuart Lawley says there is a prohibition on anyone registering a first or last name that does not belong to them. Of course, really committed blokes can always legally change their name for the purpose of registering a nasty domain.

About 1,500 .xxx domains have already been allocated and many could go live ahead of the official launch, scheduled for December 6. Interest in .xxx domains remains strong and ICM hopes to sell about 500,000 domains by early next year.
