Rick Bergman Senior VP leaves AMD

Did not get CEO appointment
And the big news after the fact that Leo Apotheker was fired as a CEO of HP is that the former number one graphics guy at AMD, and until yesterday number one guy for AMD products is out of the game.

The official storyline is “AMD Products Group General Manager Rick Bergman leaving AMD to pursue a new opportunity“ but some two weeks ago in California, we have heard that Rick Bergman was anything but happy when AMD board hired Rory Read to be the new CEO.

Rick was considered as rather strong candidate to take over, but as this didn’t happen, he apparently decided to leave AMD. President and CEO Rory Read will serve as interim general manager of AMD's Products Group until they find a replacement. We are sad to see Rick leaving, just like we were disappointed with Dave Orton’s departure, as he was the key man that helped ATI graphics gain a significant lead over Nvidia in a few occasions.

AMD also hired Paul Struhsaker former of Comcast and his job description is the corporate vice president and general manager, Commercial Business Division. Struhsaker will oversee product management and roadmap planning for AMD's servers, high performance computing and embedded products. Let’s hope that embedded includes some series tablet or even phone chips in the future.

Prior to Comcast, Struhsaker was vice president of Silicon Technologies at Motorola where he helped lead development of all handset, modem/stack and application processor platforms. Struhsaker was also chief technology officer for Texas Instruments' Broadband Business Unit so this kind of indicates that AMD will go after phones and tablets in the future.
