HDD price increases tracked

by on21 November 2011

Prices tripled in some cases

The flooding in Thailand has already taken its toll on HDD pricing and thanks to some rather down to earth database tweaks you can track just how high or fast the prices soared.

Namely, Newegg says that Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM (ST31000524AS) has jumped from measly $49.99 to as high as $149.99 in about a month. Our price search engine reveals that EU prices for the same drive have jumped from about €50 to €109. Well, at least we can be content that it’s not the Europeans who have to bear the price burden for every single glitch that occurs in Asia.

On Newegg, Western Digital’s 1TB 7200 RPM (RE4 WD1003FBYX) went from $107.99 to $249.99. In the EU, the same drive went from €75.50 to €196.56 in less than a month.

Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 7200 RPM (HDS721010DLE630) went from $64.99 to $149.99 in the same period. EU pricing for the same drive went from €45.68 to €77.93.

All in all, you can see for yourself that it’s not a good time to buy more storage. You can read more on US prices here and you can check out EU prices at buy.fudzilla.com.
