Nvidia gets big names behind its DirectTouch tech
Synaptics, Atmel, N-Trig join up
We already got a glimpse of Nvidia's DirectTouch technology back at CES 2012, but now that Atmel, Synaptics, N-trig, Raydium, Cypress and Focaltech have joined up, it sure looks a bit more interesting and probably a whole lot more promising than before.
The idea behind the new technology is that DirectTouch offloads some of the input touch processing to Tegra 3 rather than to use seperate touch controller, thus improving response and battery life. Back at CES 2012, Directtouch sounded and looked cool but the actual integration and support were always the key behind the new tech, and it now looks that Nvidia managed to get some big names behind it.
Atmel, N-trig and Synaptics will throw in their expertise with touch interfaces including Atmel's maXTouch tech, Synaptics' extensive experience with touch pads and N-trig's advanced active pen and multi-touch techs like DuoSense, seen on the HTC Flyer. Of course, Cypress and its touchscreen solutions will certainly bring a tweak or two, while Raydium and Focaltech with its touch panel controller experience shouldn't be too far.
Nvidia is certainly pushing hard and we are sure that this won't be the last time we hear about DirectTouch platform and, for now, it gives Tegra 3 4-PLUS-1 tech a decent leverage.
