Religion and politics riskier than porn
Not just in general, but for malware, too
A new study by Symantec has revealed that hackers are more likely to piggyback religious and political sites than porn sites.
Symantec found that websites with religious or ideological themes have triple the average of security threats as sites carrying adult content. So basically if you want to watch strangers having sex go to a porn site, but if you want to be on the receiving end, try reading up on politics and religion. In fact porn sites don’t even rank in the top five.
Symantec attributes the surprising results to simple economics. Owners of adult sites tend to make a lot of money on smut, so they are keen to invest in security and keep their businesses malware free. Bloggers discussing the finer points of Obama's birth certificate or the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire are not in it for the money and many can’t make the investment.
