In related news, porn industry to grow fourfold in four years

At a time when much of the world is facing a lengthy recession and everything seems to be slowing down, the internets seem to be going wild.

A study found that global internet traffic will grow fourfold by 2016, eventually hitting one zettabyte, or one sextillion bytes. Speaking of sextillions, it is worth noting that the sex industry makes up about one third of internet traffic, which translates to a lot of HD porn.

One a more serious note, the impressive growth is largely attributed to mobile devices, i.e. smartphones and tablets. By 2016 we should also see quite a few other connected devices, ranging from smart TV sets to cars and toasters. The UN estimates that there will be more than 3.4 billion internet users by 2016. To put things in perspective, the world population in the sixties was about 3.4 billion, and back then we had much better music.
