Says it infringes on their patents

According to a post over at The Inq, Nokia is going after the recently anounced US $199 Google Nexus 7 tablet on grounds that it apparently infringes on some of their IEEE 802.11 WiFi patents.

Although not yet confirmed, the general belief is that all the fuss has something to do with IEEE 802.11 WiFi standard and Nokia claims that neither Google nor Asus is linced under their patent portfolio. A Nokia spokeperson noted that they have more than 40 licensees, mainly for their standards essential patent portfolio that includes most of the mobile device manufacturers.

There is a good side of the story as it appears that Nokia might not seek injuctions against Google Nexus 7 and simply states that companies who are not yet licensed under their standard essential pantents should simply approach them and sign up for a licence.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of speculation that Microsoft is behind these Nokia moves in order to slow down Google Nexus 7 as much as it can before Surface appears.

More here.
