VMware new CEO is Pat Gelsinger
Veteran of Intel, EMC
We were all surprised to see Pat Gelsinger leaving Intel back in 2009 partially over the fiasco known as Larrabee discrete graphics, but we were happy to learn that he found a new home as president and chief operating officer at EMC.
Now it’s time for Pat to move on to a new adventure and VMware has reported that he will replace current chief executive Paul Maritz and become the new CEO of VMware. It is interesting to note that EMC acquired VMware back in 2004, but the company still operates as a separate software subsidiary.
This is a rather big change for Gelsinger as it looks like he will get a bit closer to products than the actual managing while Martiz will become EMC’s chief executive in waiting and in the meantime he will work as a technology strategist in EMC’s corporate structure.
Current EMC president, chairman and CEO Joe Tucci, 65, will stay in current position at least through 2013.
