Ex-Qualcomm engineer faces child porn charges

Nabbed after internal investigation

A former Qualcomm employee seems to be on his way to the big house, after an investigation revealed that he used the company’s network to access child porn.

Software engineer David Anthony Nemanich was arrested on Friday at his San Diego home and he appeared in court on Monday. Nemanich was arrested after a Qualcomm security engineer found out that a computer connected to Qualcomm’s network contained child pornography. The engineer subsequently contacted the FBI and a formal investigation was launched.

FBI agents raided Nemanich’s home in February, seizing computers and hard drives. Investigators found thousands of images and videos of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct on the gear.

Nemanich allegedly admitted that he received the images, but he pointed out his practice was to delete them after “online sessions” rather than keep them on his computer.

Qualcomm’s security team surely deserves credit for the arrest and on Monday the company issued a statement saying that Nemanich was “promptly terminated.”
