Disarm ARM

Intel’s shiny new CEO Brian Krzanich has his work cut out for him and one issue tops his agenda. He wants to speed up Intel’s push into mobile markets, currently dominated by ARM chips.

Krzanich has now has the Intel Architecture Group, reporting directly to him. The unit is helmed by Dadi Perlmutter, who will apparently lead the mobile push. Krzanich made his intentions clear at an annual shareholder meeting last week - he is going after Qualcomm.

Krzanich also promoted Renee James, who will now oversee Intel’s manufacturing operations. Mobile phone business honcho Mike Bell is to be moved to a new position, while CFO Stacy Smith has been given more responsibility for Intel Capital.

In other words, Krzanich is not wasting any time and we should expect more changes at Intel down the road.
