Nintendo is getting some good news which is that the sales of the Wii U are actually up. Yes, Wii U(s) are not flying off the shelves, but the release of Mario Kart 8 has given Wii U hardware sales a surge.
While we don’t know all of the numbers just yet, dealers that we spoke with tell us that they are selling both new and used Wii U consoles. One independent dealer told us, “Two weeks ago you could not give the Wii U away, this past week things are different with the release of Mario Kart 8 and people are buying Wii U consoles, not in droves, but at least they are selling.”
With Super Smash Bros coming soon, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo can maintain any kind of momentum that was created from the release of Mario Kart 8. The Big N does look to be hedging its bets with the announcement of the controller adapter specifically intended for Super Smash Bros, but it is hard to say if this is going to be a real momentum builder or not. Still anything has to be better than they were just a few short weeks ago.
