Even if you used clean install

Microsoft has said that the update from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 is free but you have to own a legal version of the Windows.

For the first time we can remember, Microsoft plans to award brave man and women that have been the part of the beta testing called Windows Insider. Those who spent hours playing with the last iteration of Preview builds, us included, will get a free Windows 10.

In case you did a clean install like we did Microsoft will prompt you to sign in with Microsoft Account notifications in case you already didn’t do that. This will be a mandatory step as Microsoft will award you a free copy.

In case you want to upgrade existing official windows you do not need an MSA to upgrade Windows 10 on your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PCs. Just to confirm and repeat it legal Windows 7 and 8.1 users will get WIndows 10 upgrade for free.

This information has just been confirmed by Microsoft at company's official blog as Microsoft wanted to clear all the doubts.

We did beta testing for Windows 98, Millennium, XP, Vista, Windows 7, windows 8, 8.1 and this is the first time that Microsoft is nice enough to award us for our trouble. Things got easier with time as Windows 10 was working just fine even at the first beta and with automatic operating system updates, things got much easier.

The only thing we didn’t like is that each and every time with Windows 10 update was we had to set up the graphics options as  windows was not smart enough to save that, The rest of programs and settings was usually fine. We got to install World, Excel previews a few times over again, but that  was not such a big hassle.

Windows 10 looks quite ready for the update that happens on the July 29th 2015.
