With new Samsung MHX controller

According to the announcement, Samsung has been recently experiencing a surge in demand for higher capacity SSDs which pushed the company to announce 2TB version of its popular 850 Pro and 850 EVO SSDs.

Based on the new Samsung MEX controller, both the Samsung 850 Pro and Samsung 850 EVO SSDs will now be available in 2TB capacities. Sharing the same specifications as the 1TB version, but based on samsung 128Gbit 3D V-NAND 2bit MLC NAND, the Samsung 850 Pro will offer sequential transfer speed of up to 550MB/s for read and up to 520MB/s for write with 4K random performance of up to 100,000 and 90,000 IOPS.

The same goes for the Samsung 850 EVO 2TB SSD, which is based on 128Gbit 3D V-NAND 3bit TLC NAND and offers sequential performance of up to 540MB/s and 520MB/s with 4K random read and write performance of up to 98,000 and 90,000 IOPS.

The only difference is the new Samsung MEX controller which comes with 2GB of on-board DRAM cache, 1GB more compared to the 1TB versions.

As expected, the 2TB versions of the Samsung 850 Pro and 850 EVO SSDs will also use standard 7mm 2.5-inch form-factor with SATA 6Gbps interface and have endurance rating of 10 years of 300 TBW for the 850 Pro and 5 years and 150 TBW for the 850 EVO.

The price for the 850 Pro 2TB version is set at US $1000 while the 2TB 850 EVO SSD will sell for US $800. Unfortunately, these two are still not listed but hopefully Samsung will get them to market soon. Samsung has also noted that we can expect to see higher capacity SSD models in mSATA and M.2 form-factor as well.
