Microsoft Xbox music renamed to Groove

Movies & TV app hits Windows 10 too

Microsoft has decided to rename Xbox Music to Grove, and the new brand makes sense. It also brings a new Movies & TV app to the new OS, and it's goal is to enable a richer media experience in Windows 10.

With the introduction of Windows 10, the Redmond-based company will introduce a subscription based music model branded as Groove. Groove is nothing than the Xbox music with a new name and in case you already own a subscription to Xbox Music, the service will work as before just under a new name.

The reason for renaming is rather simple; end users believed that you have to own a Xbox in order to subscribe to Xbox Music. There is a lot of sense in this logic and Microsoft wanted to distance subscription-based music from the gaming Xbox branding.

The app design is really clean and straightforward. It will support Windows devices, Xbox, web apps, Android phones. Support for iPhones and other Apple devices is coming soon.

Microsoft asks for $9.99/month or $99/year for the service and there is no word on any family plan.

Movies & TV is an app that helps you organise movies and TV shows you owe. This is something we've seen on iOS or Android quite some time ago, and Microsoft recognises the need to be competitive in this market. The good news is that the app supports .MKV files in case you are wondering
