Windows 10 "recommended update" in 2016

by on02 November 2015

110 million installs and forcing more

Microsoft plans to put the Windows 10 upgrade to a recommended update path for end users, without much chance to say no,  as part of a push to get more installs for the OS.

Microsoft doesn’t like the fact that some people still use Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 and despite having 10 million Windows 10 installations the company wants more. The reason is that the installs lets the company control end users and there is a remote chance that they will not bother with an external browser. .

Try saying that for Internet Explorer on Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. the upgrade path will be recommended for end users in 2016. Unpgrading ahs been recommended action for a month now. Every time we try to update – six times so far, it would fail miserably on the desktop PC with quite standard performance hardware.

Windows update from 8 to 10 worked on a notebook with an exception that we needed to change the wireless drivers as it kept failing for intel wireless card that was delivered with Windows 10 update. The rest worked just fine.

The same applies with other Fudzilla staff.  One Lenovo would not update at all and an Aspire Notebook snarled at us when we tried it.  Microsoft, we want to do it, but it doesn’t work for us, sorry.

After any upgrade the end user will have 31 days to return to a previous version of Windows. This is neat option and 31 day is a fair amount of time.

Microsoft Terry Myerson claims that:

At any time during the first 31 days, you can go to “Settings->Update and Security->Recovery and Uninstall Windows 10” to return to your prior version of Windows.

Microsoft did say that from early next year, one can expect to see   Windows 10 categorised as a “Recommended Update”

There won't be  any escape as you might accidentally do the update, but you will still have an option to reverse the damage. It is incredible to learn that the Media Creation Tool is not officially available to make ISO DVD or USB key. We did try with Windows 7 Media Creation Tool  and it all works ok.
