The thinnest one yet at 1.1mm

KIOXIA has announced that it has started sampling its 1TB Universal Flash Storage (UFS) ver. 3.1 embedded flash memory devices, which is also the thinnest 1TB UFS offering available at just a 1.1mm high package.

Based on KIOXIA's BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and hitting sequential read and write performance of up to 2,050MB/s and 1,200MB/s. Due to the constant evolving of mobile devices and 5G, which will bring faster downloads, KIOXIA's 1TB UFS v3.1 flash promises ultra-high speed performance, lower power consumption, shortened application launch times, and storage capacity that will be coming with 5G.

KIOXIA 1TB UFS uses BiCS Flash 3D flash and controller with error correction, wear leveling, logical-to-physical address translation, and bad-block management for simplified system development. It also comes with WriteBooster which enables significantly faster write speeds, and Host Performance Booster (HPB) Ver. 2.0, which promises improved random read performance by utilizing the host side memory to store logical to physical translation tables.

"KIOXIA continues to demonstrate its leadership in UFS memory with the introduction of the world's thinnest package 1 TB UFS device," noted Scott Beekman, senior director of managed flash memory products for KIOXIA America, Inc. "As we scale to higher densities and increase performance, we enable the next generation of smartphones and mobile applications to continue to expand their features and capabilities."
