Just recently, Mushkin decided to follow the SSD bandwagon
and release its own line of products for this competitive market that has
recently begun to showcase itself. Yet what strikes us in this announcement is
not the decision itself, but rather the name that the company chose to
represent its start in a new area of focus.
The company's first MLC Solid State Disk lineup is going to
be named "Europe" after the woman in Greek mythology named Europa who
was abducted by Zeus for romantic purposes. “Once,
Zeus felt in love with the beautiful Europe, now, every speed enthusiast can do
the same,” smiles Steffen Eisenstein, CEO of Mushkin Logistic GmbH and looks on
the aluminium dressed SSDs.
The drives will come in the
2.5-inch size format at 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 192GB, and 256GB capacities. As far
as performance is concerned, this series is capable of 150MBs read speeds and
90MB/s write speeds. Yet most interestingly, the drives are equipped with an
integrated mini-USB 2.0 connector which allow them to be used as external
storage devices without the need for an additional power supply.
Mushkin ultimately hopes that
consumers will be just as taken by Europe as Zeus was and offers a 3 year
warranty and exclusive aluminum packaging.
Ironically, we only see these drives available on Mushkin's
European site at the moment, with pricing ranging from €106.53
for the 32GB model to €502.09
for 192GB with the 256GB model currently unlisted.
