Auburn school district in Maine decided to give iPads to every kindergartner, in order to raise the school’s low scores.
Apparently, the deal cost more than $200,000 in a move that is surely the first of its kind. Superintendent Kelly McCarthy said that the iPads gave her students more immediate feedback and attention than she could.
Since 40 percent of Auburn’s kids are not reading at grade level, buying them iPads is supposed to fix it. We’re not entirely sure how dumbing down helps with reading, but we will find out come November, when the kindergarteners’ math and reading skills are tested.
However, McCarthy was adamant that they will make sure that the children go outside and play as well, interacting with other students in the process. Well, at least until they come of age and draft their own anti-Samsung lawsuit.
