Toshiba has just annouced that it is releasing its first Ultrabook. According to the company the 13.3-inch Portégé Z830 Ultrabook is designed to offer portability, durability, performance and essential multimedia features. The Portégé Z830 was showcased in September, so Tosh took its time.

It is 15.9 mm thick and weighs less than 1.2 kg and is 20 per cent lighter and 40 per cent thinner than the Portégé R830 series.
It comes with USB 3.0, HDMI, VGA, Gigabit LAN and SD and SIM-card slot. 
It also has the usualWi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 + HS, and Mobile Broadband 3G.
It has a second  Generation Intel Core Processor with HD 3000 graphics, 128GB solid state drive and 4GB DDR3 memory.
It is encased with magnesium alloy casing with what the press release calls a honeycomb structure.

No word on price. With Toshiba throwing its weight behind Ultabooks it is fairly likely that they might take off in 2012. Some of them will be light enough to blow away in a wind, unless you anchor them with an iPad. Of course this will mean that the iPad finally has a use.
