Acer and Lenovo eye Intel chips for tablets

Clover Trail products slated for Q3


Although neither Acer nor Lenovo made much of a mark in the ARM tablet market in 2011, both outfits seem to be embracing Intel’s next generation chips for their next generation tablets.

According to Digitimes, Acer and Lenovo plan to introduce Windows 8 tablets based on Intel’s upcoming Clover Trail platform in the third quarter. The hope is that Intel chips will have a bit more potential in the enterprise market, due to x86 compatibility.

However, even before Windows 8 and Clover Trail show up, we should see a few Medfield-based tablets, perhaps even smartphones. Rumour has it that LG will be the first major vendor to launch Medfield phones in the first half of the year.
