Lenovo’s 7-inch IdeaPad A1 available for €159

by on31 January 2012

Deal of the Day: Rolling out the red carpet for Kindle Fire

Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet has yet to appear in European markets, but the competition seems to be taking notice of its success stateside.

Lenovo is apparently slashing the price of its entry level IdeaPad A1 tablet, which is now selling for just €159 on Amazon, for a pinch of irony. The IdeaPad A1 is a no-frills tablet, with a 7-inch 1024x600 capacitive LCD screen, 1GHz single-core A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

While the processor is a bit out of date, the IdeaPad A1 is by no means an obsolete piece of kit. In fact, it went on sale in December and it stacks up rather well to the Kindle Fire, although it is somewhat slower. Unlike the Kindle, it has Android Market support, it also features proper GPS support, two cameras and a microSD slot.

The A1 runs a slightly modified version of Gingerbread and there is a good chance it will get custom ICS roms sooner or later. All in all, it offers plenty of storage and functionality for only the fraction of the price of mid-range and high-end Android tablets, which makes it our deal of the day.
