Mobile GK107 Kepler tips up in Acer notebooks

GT640 is the name

A couple of days ago we wrote about the 15.6-inch Acer Timeline M3, which the company likes to call an ultrabook, but we failed to appreciate one key aspect of the spec, the all-new Nvidia graphics.

Frankly we weren’t paying attention, but its GT640M GPU is actually based on Nvidia’s new Kepler architecture, the GK107 to be exact. The GK107 is a 384-core design with 16 ROPs and a clock speed of 405MHz. It has a 128-bit memory bus and it should ship with a 1GB or 2GB frame buffer.

According to Expreview, the GT640M also found its way into Acer’s new VA40 notebook, along with an Ivy Bridge processor. The Timeline M3 is a bit more down to earth and it should show up in retail ahead of the VA40, but it is still not clear when.
