Acer announces Aspire M5 ultrabook and V5 notebook

by on11 October 2012

Touch-enabled and Windows 8 ready

Most, if not all manufacturers are lining up for Windows 8 October 26th launch, and Acer has decided there is room for new Aspire M5 ultrabook and Aspire V5 notebook, both with a Windows 8 friendly touch screen.

The Aspire M5 is a 14-inch 1366x768 ultrabook based on Intel's Core i5 dual-core CPU clocked at 1.7GHz. The rest of the specs include 6GB of memory, 20GB SSD and 500GB of HDD storage. Of course, we are talking about a base version that starts at US $799.99 and we are quite sure that there will be a few more SKUs. Acer also threw in a backlit keyboard, nice aluminum alloy casing about 2cm thick and an estimated battery life of eight hours.

The standard, non-ultrabook, Aspire V5 notebook will be available in 14 and 15.6-inch versions. Both come with same 1366x768 resolution and lack the SSD hybrid storage option, aluminum casing and "thin and light" design. The Aspire V5 models offer quite a bang for the buck and it is good to see that touchscreen is not going to bring a big premium on the price considering that the 14-inch V5 starts off at US $749.99 while the 15.6-inch will go for US $799.99.

Of course, Acer will still be selling the non-touch versions of these same notebooks and ultrabooks.
