Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 lineup coming next month

by on25 June 2013

Underwhelming specs, unspectacular pricing

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 lineup is hitting retail next month, at least in the US. Europe should not be far behind though.

Sadly though, the actual products are anything but impressive. The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is a 7-inch tablet priced at $199, which doesn’t sound too bad until you take a look at the spec. It has a 1024x600 screen and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, along with 8GB of storage. It basically looks worse than the Nexus 7, which launched a year ago.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is priced at $299 and it has a 1280x800 display, with a faster Exynos 1.5GHz dual-core and 16GB of storage. It also has 1.5GB of RAM and a 5-megapixel camera. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing spectacular to say the least.

Lastly the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is Samsung’s new flagship tablet. Based on a speedy dual-core Intel Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, it has a few interesting features, but once again the spec sheet looks straight out of 2011. It has a 1280x800 screen and 1GB of RAM, yet it costs $399.

We have to say we are rather baffled by Samsung’s pricing, not to mention the lacklustre specs. Granted, we knew the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 spec weeks ago, but not the prices, which look like they were pulled straight from a 2012 retailer catalogue. Of course, Samsung will pump millions into its sales machine and it will eventually shift the new Tabs, but honestly we see absolutely no reason why anyone should get one. Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba and a bunch of other companies offer a lot more for less.
