Acer Aspire One Cloudbook launched

by on05 August 2015

11 inch Windows 10 notebook for $169 / €269

Microsoft is getting serious in its fight against Chromebooks and has just announced the Acer Aspire One Cloudbook.

This notebook should be available in August in the North America and it is a Windows 10 low-power machine. It comes in 11 or 14 inch display size and it is powered by Celeron mobile processor and 2 GB DDR3L memory.

We don’t know how much storage it has, but to sweeten the deal Microsoft is offering 1-year subscription of Office 365 Personal and up to 1 TB OneDrive online storage for the apps. Acer told us you can configure them with up to 64GB but we expect to see the basic configuration of less than that.

This Acer notebook comes with 802.11ac WiFi and it also has full size HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and SD card port. The 11 inch version is just .70 inches (17.9 mm) thin and 2.54 lbs. (1.15kg) light and the 14-inch weighs in at only 3.5 lbs. (1.6kg).

The screen resolution is not the stronger side of this product but they both pack HD (1366x768) 16:9 LED-backlit display. This is still a great deal to get an 11 inch notebook with Windows 10 for $169.

The 11 inch will be available in August at least for North America while the 14 inch comes in either September or October starting at $199.

As life is sometimes not fair to the people in Europe, Middle East and Africa, the Cloudbooks will also launch in EMEA region, but at much higher prices, with the Cloudbook 11 available in September starting at 269 euros. The Cloudbook 14 is coming in October, starting at 299 euros, which makes it far from sweet deal for the Europeans. On the whole Europeans who are unhappy about being ripped off in this way might want to ignore the product until Acer sees sense and stops treating them like scum.  After all, there are rival products.
