Rockstar disappointed in sales performance

There is no disputing that Grand Theft Auto is one of the premiere franchises, and while Rockstar had high expectations for the performance of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the Nintendo platform, it was disappointing at best. The title has reportedly sold a little more than 89,000 units since its launch on March 17th.

The performance of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has left a lot of people scratching their heads. Once it was announced it was thought that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars could be one of the first “Mature” titles that would do well on the Nintendo platform.

The question of demographics and a lack of interest by Nintendo owners are thought to be part of the problem. According to sources, Rockstar might still be able to see some profit out of the title, but it is going to take time if sales continue at this rate. Rockstar is not the only publisher that has been unable to find success with “M” rated titles.  Madworld from Sega has also struggled, with rumors saying that it has only sold a dismal 66,000 units since release.
