0 for 3 on last developed titles leads to problems

When a studio basically goes 0 for 3 on the last two titles that it has developed, the future cannot be good; and in the case of Stockholm based developer GRIN, it could prove to be deadly. The reality is that without radical changes and a little luck, the studio might not even survive.

That latest that we are hearing from GRIN is that more cutbacks are in progress with employees being called at home and told not to even come into work at the Stockholm office. It is unclear yet if this is actually a precursor to more layoffs or some sort of bankruptcy or reorganization move for the company.  From the whispers that we hear, more layoffs are a fact, as the company has already closed both the Barcelona and Gothenburg offices.

Prior to what can only be described a run of bad luck with the last three titles that the company released, the studio was doing pretty well after coming off much success with the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter titles that the studio had developed for Ubisoft. This success allowed for the expansion of the studio and led to the developer picking additional development contracts.

While GRIN has said little about the recent run of bad luck, it is obvious from idle chatter among some of our sources that if fortunes do not turn around soon for the developer they are going to have to make massive cuts to the bone in order to survive. Now, even survival might not actually be an option. We will update you when we find out more.
