To get 2010 GDC lifetime achievement award

Who better than John Carmack to be honored with a lifetime achievement award? Nobody, that’s who! Carmack will be the recipient of 2010 Game Developers Lifetime Achievement Choice Award. From the whispers that we hear from many we have spoken with in the industry, it is an honor that is long overdue for a man whom many consider the father of first person shooter titles.

The honor, which will be presented to Carmack on March 11th during the 2010 Game Developer Conference , is another in a long list of awards that this pioneer in graphics technologies will receive. Carmack is a co-founder of id Software that is known for titles such as Doom, Quake, Castle Wolfenstien and the upcoming Rage.

Although Carmack has had a history over the years of being somewhat controversial in his opinions of graphics technologies, there is no doubt that both hardware and software players in the industry pay close attention to his opinion and comments about graphics technology. His keynote addresses at Quakecon draw legions of his fans to hear the technical details and a breakdown of the behind the scenes magic that make id Software titles go.

Carmack has always done it his way, and we can think of few others that better deserve and have had his kind of influence on software development.
