Will get a StarCraft II special edition release

We have been sorting out a lot about StarCraft II, as it seems that people just can’t get enough of it. This is despite all of the recent negative comments about DRM problems on the PC due to the requirement of having to always be connected to the authorization server over the Internet as part of their protection scheme, and the uproar when it was announced that this was the reason that there would be no LAN or single player play in StarCraft II without an Internet connection.

Apparently, this is not exactly correct or accurate. While it is true that you will need an Internet connection and a Battle.net account for StarCraft II, our sources tell us that players will not need to have a continuous connection in order to play the game. According to our sources, you only need to first activate the product using your Battle.Net account; once activated, you will be able to play the campaign and other single player parts of the game after a successful activation.

In addition, StarCraft II will get an expensive special edition version release, as well. The StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Collector’s Edition, which will retail for $99, will include 176 page art-book, sound track CD, in-game WOW pet, behind the scenes DVD and a 2GB Dog Tag flash drive that contains the original StarCraft and Brood War expansion pack. Some additional content will be made available via download from BattleNet, but it isn’t clear what all will be included beyond references to portraits and unit customizations.

While you can still get the $60 standard version, for those that want the Collector’s Edition experience and extras, it sounds like a pretty reasonable package for $99.  Sources tell us that if you want it, you had better pre-order it as we expect numbers to be limited after release.
