The long wait for Quake III Arena to finally be coming to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 could be nearly over. Multiple sources are reporting that the id Software title has been approved by the Australian Ratings Board and received a 15+ rating.

The game was shown to the public in a pre-release build during the Penny Arcade Expo way back in 2009, but since then things have grown quiet while development continued. When Quake III Arena finally makes it way to the console, gamers will enjoy a collection of 35 online maps drawn from a collection of maps from Arena and the Team Arena expansion pack.

While id Software has not confirmed a release date, we suspect that it will arrive for download on both the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network before the end of the year, according to our sources. Pricing has also yet to be determined.
