3DS & PSP2 to get F1 2011

by on01 March 2011

Codemasters to add these platforms
Sources are confirming to us that Codemasters will be offering the 2011 iteration of the F1 franchise for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the upcoming Sony PSP2 (NGP) platforms, in addition to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

Codemasters has not had a lot to say about F1 2011 beyond the confirmation that they were working on the 2011 version of the game. The publisher confirmed the existence of a 2011 release during the launch of the 2010 version of the title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While the publisher did first offer a PSP and Wii version of the F1 franchise under the title F1 2009 prior to the release of the 2010 version on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the publisher has yet to indicate their specific plans for the 2011 release.

According to our sources, right now the publisher is planning releases for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the 3DS and PSP2 (NGP) portables. There is currently no talk of a PSP for Wii release this time around. With the F1 season just about to start, it is surprising that the publisher has not yet announced its release plans for the 2011 version.

The 2010 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 did sell better than expected, according to various reports. As expected, it was most popular outside of North America, but the North American sales did perform better than expected. This could lead to a bigger push for the title in the North American market space this time around. The upcoming release of the new NASCAR 2011, however, might impact the sales of F1 2011 in North America as there was no NASCAR offering last time around.
