Patent war turns ugly
PS3 supplies into the EU are expected to dry up in a couple of weeks after the EU court in the Hague blessed an import ban on the games console. European customs officers have been ordered to seize shipments of Playstation 3s after LG won a preliminary injunction against Sony.

For the next ten days all new PS3s have to be confiscated as they are imported into the UK and the rest of Europe.
While there are enough PS3's sitting on the shelves to last for ten days worth of sales, if the embargo is extended beyond two to three weeks there will not be a PS3 on sale in the EU.

Already Tens of thousands of PS3s were seized by customs officers last week in the Netherlands. The reason is a dispute that centres on Sony's  infringing use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.

LG called for an investigation into the PS3's Blu-ray use in a filing with the US international trade commission earlier this month.  It is trying to get a permanent exclusion order into the United States of the games console. Sony is also seeking to block shipments of LG smartphones to the US.
