Homefront servers exceed expectations

Adding more servers to cope with demand
Homefront servers are apparently at capacity, which is causing some matchmaking issues for those trying to join online matches, according to Kaos Studios. In the support forum for Homefront, Kaos admits, “The demand for servers has outstripped our expectations, and we are doing all we can to bring more servers online to meet this demand as soon as possible.”

While Kaos admits that their estimate for the total number of servers necessary to support Homefront was too low, much of this is due to the fact that sales of the game are greater than expected, which in turn has led to the server capacity issues. Kaos is doing everything possible to cope with the demand for servers. Many players have expressed frustration over the difficulties and are unhappy.

In the meantime, Kaos suggests that you might want to try the “Skirmish” mode, which is capped at a lower player count and operates using a peer to peer infrastructure and on which you can avoid having to queue up and wait to play on the dedicated servers.

The news of the demand for servers is interesting given the fact that many of the reviews for the title have not exactly been what THQ and Kaos were hoping for. The good news, however, is that most of the reviews say that the multiplayer is the big highlight of the title; and that seems to be contributing to the demand for server slots.

We have spoken with several analysts that seem to have mixed opinions about how Homefront will actually perform. Some of those we spoke with maintain that the title will be successful and reach the sales goal or breakeven point of between 2 and 2.5 million copies sold.
