As many as 115 developers in the Lego Group that are responsible for the care and feeding of Lego Universe will have to seek other employment, as Lego will shut down Lego Universe. Developers in both the U.S. and Danish studios will be losing their jobs.
While Lego invested a great deal of money in the development of the free-to-play game, Lego Universe was only able to attract two million players, which was far from that necessary to keep the game going and make it profitable to continue.
Lego acknowledges the challenges it has had to build a successful revenue model for Lego Universe. In many ways, the announcement of the closure is a shame because Lego Universe had a significant number of bright spots; it will be a sad thing not to see its development continue.
