Quadruple the number of official servers

DICE has quadrupled the number of official Battlefield 3 servers over what they had for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players. The decision to add the servers has come amidst significant complaints from players who have said that DICE only now cared about money and was trying to force players to have to rent servers. The amount of official servers has clearly gone down, but not so any longer.

DICE has suggested to players that if they want to make sure that they are playing on an Official DICE server that they need to use the server browser and look for servers with the owner set to DICE.

While DICE has not commented on why this move was made, could it be that the move is related to the drop off in players since the reduction in official servers? That would be our best guess, and that is something that you don’t want when you are in the process of still rolling out a number of expansion packs and need to keep players engaged. The question is whether the move comes too late; and will those players that have moved on actually come back to play Battlefield 3 again now that they can actually get on a server again?
