80s Capcom Arcade Classics coming
A celebration of its 30th anniversary
Capcom will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with the release of a Capcom Arcade Cabinet: Retro Game Collection that will be coming for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The games will arrive in downloadable format and primarily focus on Capcom classics from the 80s period.
The games will be conversions of the arcade versions, rather than conversions of titles that appeared on platforms like the NES. The first release in the series will be a side-scroller from 1987 called Black Tiger. Other titles including 1942, Commando, Gun Smoke, and Trojan are also rumored to be in the plans for release.
The new releases will be faithful recreations of the arcade versions of the titles, but they will offer new modes to help players deal with the extreme difficult that some of these Capcom classics where known for. Also the games will have offer support for arcade sticks and turbo buttons. It is expected that the games will include both achievements and trophies as well, but Capcom has yet to officially confirm this.
Look for an official announcement to come from Capcom next month along with details on when the initial offerings are expected to be released.
