AMD bundles Civilization: Beyond Earth with Hawaii cards

by on07 November 2014

R9 295X2, R9 290X and R9 290 qualify

Earlier this week Nvidia announced its new bundle that allows buyers to choose one of three AAA games with GeForce cards. Nvidia offers Assassins Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 or the Crew but unfortunately you get one of them, not all three.

AMD's new bundle allows buyers of R9 295X2, R9 290X or R9 290 cards to qualify for a copy of Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth. Sapphire has already said that it will offer this game with its R9 290X Vapor 8GB cards but it turns out that all partners are getting the bundle and that all R9 290 series products.

AMD continues to offer its Never Settle Space Edition bundle which means that buying a R9 290 card can give you an additional three titles. The way Radeon Gold Reward works is that you have three choices. AMD describe a choice as "1 Indie Pack (2 bundled Indie Games) = 1 Choice 1 AAA Game= 1 Choice".

AMD doesn’t forget buyers of more affordable cards, so if you get an AMD Radeon R7 265, AMD Radeon R7 260X or AMD Radeon R7 260 card you do qualify for Silver awards or two choices. Buyers of the AMD Radeon R7 250X, AMD Radeon R7 250 or AMD Radeon R7 240 still get one choice - that means either a single AAA game from a list of 25 or an Indie pack that bundles two games.

End of the year graphics sales will be affected by bundles as well as pricing. Nvidia GTX 980 might be faster than the Radeon R9 290X, but the 8GB option is a smart marketing move on AMD’s part. One thing is crystal clear. Weather you chose a Radeon R9 290X 4GB / 8GB or Geforce GTX 980, you will be able to enjoy games at high frame rates and high resolutions, so the choice is yours. Bundles will play a significant role in the decision making process.
